The 058 133 517 purge valve is an ECU-controlled component in the evaporative-emissions system. It regulates the flow of stored fuel vapors from the charcoal canister into the engine, where the vapors are burned during normal operation.
By opening and closing at the correct time, the valve helps the engine management system control fuel vapor recovery and monitor the EVAP system for leaks. A failed valve can interrupt vapor flow, trigger a check-engine light, and contribute to driveability concerns.
Fuel vapors naturally develop inside the fuel tank. Rather than releasing them into the atmosphere, the EVAP system stores these vapors in a charcoal canister. The engine control unit then commands the valve to open when operating conditions allow the engine to burn the vapors.
The 058 133 517 purge valve also supports EVAP self-testing.
