Over time, exposure to high engine temperatures and coolant flow causes hoses and connectors to deteriorate. Even reinforced rubber hoses and plastic union fittings can fail due to splitting, swelling, cracking, or breaking, which can leave you stranded with a coolant leak.

This coolant hose connector part connects the lower radiator hose to the thermostat housing cover on MKIII models. It is a common failure point and should be replaced at the first sign of wear, cracking, or coolant seepage.
